Trevor Murphy is taking a stoic approach to the passing milestones of life while also reverting to his earliest incarnation as a bass player. “Young Hearts,” the newest single and video from Quiet Parade has Murphy offering reassurances to his friends that everything is going to be just fine.
Recorded and produced by Colin Buchanan (Paper Lions, Sorrey) in Charlottetown, PEI, “Younger Hearts” might be a bit daunting for anyone staring down the barrel of middle-age, but, as Murphy reassures us, that’s probably not so bad.
“I think it’s a good thing. I’m becoming a believer in living in the present, taking stock of what you have, the things you love, the people around you, and making the most of it,” says Murphy.
Murphy explains that the song is being written from the perspective of himself and his experiences in relation to others. It’s a proven to be a common thread that’s wound it’s way through Quiet Parade’s music, but something they expect will become more clear in the upcoming full length album the he band has been working on.
“Maybe it’s ’cause I’m in my mid 30s now, but it seems like everything and everyone is in a stage of perpetual shift – myself included. Some of it is small, but then – at times – I see monumental changes happening around me,” says Murphy.
“The question I ask myself is not just ‘how do you deal with that?’ but ‘how do you act in the face of that’? and how – perhaps – is that changing you at the same time? I don’t think these songs propose the answer, rather they see me asking myself those questions more deeply and more seriously.”
In search of new music? Quiet Parade will be heading back to the rehearsal space shortly to refine their latest work (with just a brief excursion to Nova Scotia Music Week, where they will be performing all new tunes). The band are then expecting to head into the recording studio early in 2020 to complete their new album.
