Few Canadian artists can go toe to toe with the likes of Alanis Morissette, Robin Thicke, or even the legendary Robin Sparkles, but Alexander and The Great Ones are giving them all a run for their money. His new video for “2 Yung 2 Be In <3” is a artistic masterpiece of lingering looks and unparalleled dance moves.
“That video was made with a completely straight face and is meant to be interpreted with the utmost seriousness,” insists an unprompted Alexander MacNeil.
Taken from his album Super Turbo, which was released late last month, the video for “2 Yung 2 Be In <3” throws back to the classic sounds of decades past, and compresses them all into the glory of late 90s CanCon. The video features MacNeil engaging in a waterside dance; a uniquely unadulterated expression of himself, untethered by the confines of emotional bondage or spelling.
Combining MacNeil’s moves with his power anthem of self love, the song is Alexander’s and The Great Ones equivalent of “Independent Women.”
The video falls just shy of perfection. MacNeil admits that his hands were tied by budgetary constraints. In the end, that meant cutting out the fog machines and lasers, and completely dashing any hopes of having a topless photoshoot in a room full of kittens. It’s hard to imagine what could have been. Fortunately, MacNeil’s talents as a artist and challenging interpretation of a firework wielding Cupid saved the day.
“I couldn’t even get any other actors,” says MacNeil, “or else I wouldn’t have put myself through the gauntlet of self-presentation and those dance moves.”
Alexander and The Great Ones will be celebrating the new album, Super Turbo, with an official release party on October 18, 2019 at the Stubborn Goat Gastropub in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Bring your best dance moves.
