Moncton, New Brunswick is about to get a little wilder as the city kicks off Mud City Music Festival next week. Taking place from October 1 – 5, 2019 the festival will have a few special surprises, like a performance from sludge metal band Red Fang and a special appearance on Hollerado’s final The One Last Time Tour.
“When we first started this festival, we had a vague idea of what we wanted to accomplish. We always knew that it was about creating new opportunities in the local scene, but we weren’t quite sure in which direction to focus,” explains Mud City’s Festival Director Xavier Léger.
“Now, 5 years later, it feels like the vision is finally rounding into shape. Each year we try to add a little something, or try something different in order to keep pushing our boundaries. From the moment we start programming to the first show night, we’re always excited when we get to put on concerts in our hometown. This year is no different, with a mix of some of our favorite acts from the region and amazing artists who have never been here before.”
Léger explains that when putting the festival together, they start with the headliner – in this case it’s this year’s headliner, Red Fang – and work outward to make sure the whole line-up fits coherently while striking a balance and variety of styles.
“We love putting the pieces of this weird puzzle together each year. Like the local scene, we feel the festival has so much potential still, and we see this every time we add a new venue or festival partner. Through it all, our goal remains the same: to put on the best damn live shows we can. That’s what keeps us going.”
This year, the full Mud City festival line-up includes: Red Fang, Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet, Hollerado, Rich Aucoin, The Northern Pikes, Ian Blurton’s Future Now, ZUKU, Adam Baldwin, Atsuko Chiba, les Païens, Which Witch is Which, Tampa, Roxy & The Underground Soul Sound, John Jerome & The Congregation, Diner Drugs, Nebullama, Julie Aubé, Mike Trask, Little You Little Me, Frig Dancer, and Amy Stone & The Veneers.
Mud City Music Festival takes places at venues around Moncton, New Brunswick, includes Tide and Boar Gastropub, The Caveau, Centre culturel Aberdeen, Pink Flamingos Cabaret/Lounge and more. Tickets and passes are available online now.
