Kim Harris follows up her first single in five years with “Uproar,” a song which she says marks big changes in her life. Much like the phoenix-from-the-ashes anthem of “Heirloom,” the song has a lot of heft in its soul but, unlike “Heirloom,” “Uproar” takes an upbeat twist; twirling away with its meaning just out of grasp.
“‘Uproar’ came when I was feeling an overwhelming current that something was about to change my life in a big way,” explains Harris, “like I was barrelling toward the edge of a cliff about to fly off into something completely unknown. An unending, dark sky with no idea what existed around me. I found myself trying to connect with something larger and intangible, looking for explanations to questions and behaviour that I wasn’t necessarily going to find answers to.
“Through writing this song, I somehow predicted the shift that was about to happen in my life, because, as it often goes, my higher self knew it was coming long before I did.”
Presumably, Harris then laughed, and disappeared into the night with a flourish of her cape, choosing to leave the mysteries of those momentous changes for another occasions. To be fair, many of the biggest journeys in anyone’s life are taken alone and hold no meaning for anyone but ourselves.
Whatever was said, or given, or even what the uproar was about might go unanswered, but it’s clear Harris is landing on her feet.
“Uproar” is the second single from a forthcoming Kim Harris full-length, and the follow-up to “Heirloom” which was released in May. The new, and equally mysterious, album is set to arrive in early 2020 via LHM Records.
