Music Video: Voodoo Sometimes Show Off With New Instrumental ‘Trust Fund Funk/Indonesian Pre Workout’

Halifax funk-trio Voodoo Sometimes have released a new live-off-the-floor music video two-in-one snack for “Trust Fund Funk/Indonesian Pre Workout.” Recorded at Ocean Floor Recording, the double-single instrumental is a a follow-up to their single “Black Tar Heroin” released last month, and digs hard into some classic and modern influences that show off their skills as musicians.

“These two tunes were the first things we wrote and showcased as a band when we were just getting started,” says Matthew Fraser, singer and lead guitarist.

“It has always had a great response from people and it gave us a lot of momentum moving forward. We wanted to give people an idea of what we are like live, and this video does a great job of capturing the energy that we bring to our performances.”

The trio make some obvious nods to Vulfpeck and George Clinton; particularly that bass line that screams out just how much they want the funk. The band do manage to share the limelight efficiently on this instrumental track; walking that tightrope almost to a fault. It brings into question whether or not the Good Lord ever intended for funk to be a democracy.

“We really tried to throw everything we could into it,” adds bassist Aidan Zann-Roland.

The band also note that the new single is the first to include the newest Voodoo Something member, drummer Garrett Jenkins from Antigonish. Garrett joined the band earlier this summer for all their live performances, including the band’s debut at Evolve Festival.

Voodoo Sometimes have yet to announce any upcoming dates, though mention there will be a tour coming soon that will include several stop at Maritime universities throughout Fall and Winter 2019. In the meantime, the band are preparing to record and release an album, which will include both singles.
