Single: Kylie Fox Pens an Ode to Moosehead Beer with ‘This Beer is Home’

If you grew up in New Brunswick, there’s a good chance  you’ve got a tale (or two) that starts with “so, I picked up a case of Moose Light.” It dominated as the defacto beer of the east coast for at least a generation. In recognition of the brew, Saint John songwriter Kylie Fox has penned “This Beer is Home,” an ode to her brand of choice.

Kylie Fox’s relationship to the beer is a story that will ring home with many Saint Johners. Her father worked at the Moosehead brewery for 32 years — since he was 28. Her sister would later work at the brewery as a university Summer student, and Fox herself works as a part-time brewery ambassador. Like many people living on Saint John’s West Side, Moose Light became more than a beverage for Kylie Fox, it was genuinely a way of life.

“Moosehead was my bread and butter. I distinctively remember the smell of the brewery on his tan button up uniform,” says Fox.

The brewery took notice when a version of the song was released online, featuring Fox performing in her dad’s old Moosehead uniform. That’s when the marketing team at Moosehead decided to jump in and financially support the studio-recording of the song at Porchlight Studios with John McLaggen (Tomato/Tomato) featuring Stephen Bennett on the drums and Kaitlyn Raitz on the cello.

The brewery will also be hosting a fundraiser for the recording of her debut full-length album, Green, produced by Dale Murray. In support of this, Moosehead will be holding a concert on Friday, July 26th at their Moosehead Smallbatch Bar. The event will include a barbeque, a keg collecting donations for the project, and a dollar from every Moosehead Light sold to contributed to the recording of Fox’s upcoming full-length album and vinyl release.
