On the road of life, there are passengers and there are drivers. And then there are the people who will cut you and leave you at the next gas station if you’re not willing to keep up. Brad Milligan of the Brad Milligan Band wants you to know that he’s definitely headed somewhere, whatever it takes, with their newest single, “Destination (Out of my Mind).”
Opening with the echoes of Dire Strait’s “Money for Nothing” (which, if you wanted to build a musical family tree, had Mark Knopfler emulating the guitar sounds of ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons), “Destination (Out of my Mind)” kicks off with a mid-80s blues-rock riff that quickly melts away into a pop-rock song about living up to your goals, whatever the cost.
“This is a song about passion,” explains Brad Milligan, the band’s namesake frontman. “A song about doing what you love and following your dreams.”
“At the time of writing this song, my girlfriend and I had been fighting a lot, mostly because she couldn’t come to grips with my determination to be a successful musician. That meant less time for her. I wrote this song as a way to express how I felt.”
He explains that “Destination (Out of my Mind)” is also for all the people happy to pay lip service, but when it comes to actually providing support they fail to backup their talk with any action.
The single is the first of what the Brad Milligan Band say will be featured on their yet-to-be-titled EP. The band are currently still recording, but are looking at releasing sometime near the end of September.
If you’d like to catch the band in person, they’ve got an Ontario tour in the works, with a kick-off show at The Horseshoe on August 20, 2019.
