The Halifax Urban Folk Festival offers a whirlwind tour of the city’s music venues each year, but one is standing out in particular as a special destination. Develop Nova Scotia and the Downtown Halifax Business Commission are sponsoring two nights of great performances on the HUFF Waterfront Stage at The Salt Yard. The festival have also announced an extra handful of acts who will be swelling the ranks of their 2019 lineup.
The HUFF Waterfront Stage will see free performances from Dennis Ellsworth and the Electric Stars, Jah’Mila, Slowcoaster, Pretty Archie, The Hypochondriacs, Corey Isenor, and Eamon McGrath & the Halifax All-Stars on Saturday, August 31 and Sunday, September 1.
The festival will also be adding a second Matthew Sweet headlining show at The Carleton on Monday, September 2 that will include the backing of the Halifax All-Stars (which itself includes Matt Mays, Paul Boudreau, and Damien Moyniham). The added show will take place on and will also include an opening set by Dennis Ellsworth and the Electric Stars.
Additional shows added to the HUFF calendar of events include Shaun Verreault of Wide Mouth Mason at Sniggly Wiggly’s backed by the Halifax All-Stars and opened by Charlie A’Court and his trio.
HUFF have expanded to their free Songwriters Circles in Halifax and Dartmouth. The circle at the New Scotland Brewing Company stage will be joined this year by Brian Byrne of I Mother Earth and Thom Swift, the Brightwood Brewery stage will see Leanne Hoffman, Craig Mercer, Gabriel Minnikin, Colette Deveaux, and Norma MacDonald, and Izra Fitch and Erika Kulnys will be featured on the Good Robot Brewing Company stage.
These will all be joining the already-announced acts of Matthew Sweet, Damhnait Doyle, Alejandro Escovedo, Paul Murphy of Wintersleep, JUNO award winner Catherine MacLellan, Christina Martin, Mo Kenney, Carleton Stone, Kaleigh O’Connor, Dave Sampson, Jodi Guthro, Willie Stratton, Dylan Guthro, Maura Whitman, Cameron Nickerson, The Burning Hell, Museum Pieces, Gianna Lauren, Ian Janes, Chris Kirby, The Novaks, Cameron, Cory Tetford, T. Thomason, Terra Spencer, Daniel Walker, Ethan Ash, Jake Duggan, Laura Merrimen, Mia Cathleen, The Maes, Leeroy Stagger, Quote the Raven, Willow St. Station, Novusolis, Wide Mouth Mason’s Shaun Verreault, Garrett Mason, Tim Moxam, Thomas Stajcer, The Town Heroes’ Michael S. Ryan and Elsie Morden.
