Single: The Blue Lane Tease New Series of Concept Albums with ‘Vision’

Just a week out from the release of their upcoming concept album, Skyland Saga | Part One: Vision, Halifax-based genre-bending trio The Blue Lane have dropped the titular track as a single. “Vision” is a little bit 90s alt rock, filled with a bass line that might have been pulled from Smash Mouth, and given a light coating of psychedelic mantra for good measure.

With a broad swath of influences The Blue Lane describe as “Van Halen meeting the Alabama shakes in a casual, yet dignified jam session with Frank Zappa.” In their typical fashion, it’s a fusion of a few genres, ranging from the blues rock that features prominently in the song’s guitar solo, to The Dandy Warhols-like matter-of-fact delivery of the lyrics.

The band lay in heavy with the chorus “you can see the way, you can see the light,” which serves as either a hopeful reminder, or a frustrating impasse, depending on your perspective.

The band explain that the single’s underlying theme is one that addresses the depths of mental health recovery, one that we can expect to see revisited over the course of the full album.

“Vision, lyrically paints a journey for the listeners through emotion evoking, thought provoking poetry. Throughout the new album there is an underlying theme that addresses the depths of mental health. The intimate lyrics and musical interpretations represent the human emotional experience,” explains The Blue Lane’s Rachael Henderson who performs vocals on the track.

Skyland Saga | Part One: Vision, is just the first part in a series of concept albums for The Blue Lane. They’ll be releasing the album on July 13, 2019.
