Phew! It is finally summer and along with it comes new music from Honeymoon Driver. Hailing from Halifax this alternative rock group is graciously releasing a series of new tracks to rattle our eardrums, all beginning with “Worry Worry.”
Although you may remember them as being named Soapbox Opera, last August the band made the decision to change their name to what we know them now as Honeymoon Driver.
“We were on the fence about that name for a bit, and when we looked into it there appeared to be another band in the states with that exact name. We opted for something more unique,” says the band’s vocalist Blake d’Entremont.
The first single to be released under the band’s new moniker is “Worry Worry.” Giving us a danceable beat, it’s hard to wonder what we need to “worry” about. The plucky guitar strings add depth and playfulness, while the lyrics take us on a journey.
Reminiscent of Brighton indie rockers The Kooks, the bright post-punk revival track takes an upbeat approach to modern existential crises, or what we’ve come to collectively refer to as “everyday life.” Sometimes all it takes to get through life is just a little bit of willful ignorance and maybe a few happy distractions.
Honeymoon Driver will be releasing two more singles in the near future, with the possibility of an EP release in September, though the band claim that is still a process very much in the works.
“Each song is inspired by a certain style of music and listeners can probably pick up some subtle similarity to artists they’ve heard before while experiencing something entirely new,” says d’Entremont.
