Halifax hard rockers Dali Van Gogh have dropped yet another music video, this time trying their hand at covers. Taken from their live show at The Garrison, the cover in question is none other than July Talk’s “Picturing Love,” and the band delivers a fairly fresh take on the track.
“We’ve all been big fans of July Talk for years,” said Isaac Kent, lead guitarist of Dali Van Gogh. “I remember first seeing them on Canada Day at Alderney Landing early in their career.”
“Picturing Love has always been a favourite of mine personally, and was an easy one put our own kind of energy into.”
Issac Kent’s growly lyrics followed up by Rachelle Moreau’s gritty keys and high-energy vocals make for an eerie sort of intensity, while the band’s cover provides a bit more sound in the background when compared to the original.
“I think it turned out even better than expected,” says Kent. “There’s something special about performing music live.”
“It’s raw and organic and I think that comes across here.”
Like their last music video, “Have It All,” the band elected to used footage from one of their live shows at Garrison Brewing in Halifax, Nova Scotia, working with videographer Andrew Hartlen to capture the moment.
“Well once we had performed the song a few times live, people had commented on how well we did,” says Kent. “So, with the release show footage being shot for our last video, we asked Andrew Hartlen to specifically make sure he captured this full song.”
