Not every deal made at the crossroads is made as eagerly as Robert Johnson’s decision to sell his soul for musical greatness. Sometimes, like in the scenario played out in “Shake,” the new single from The Royal Volts, we’re forced to make a bargain that’s a little harder to swallow. Coincidentally, The Royal Volts have just announced they’re the first band to sign with Jon Landry’s new Ragged Head Records.
The band are currently working with Ragged Head Records to release their second EP and follow-up to their 2017 release, Enough is Never Enough.
“For me, The Royal Volts are the archetypical young, excessively talented and hungry rock and roll band – and the perfect artist to get the wheels turning.” says Landry, Supreme Overlord, Deal-Maker and Chief Cat Groomer at Ragged Head Records, as well as frontman for kitchen-party conductors The Stanfields.
“Shake” has the band digging in with Quenny Stevens’ hard-punch percussion and guitars ripping away like electrified chainsaws. Produced by Landry himself, it has the band moving in a direction that is expertly raw.
All about those bad deals that are a little hard to stomach, we assume the band aren’t referring to the recent signing.
“We have all that the one time we have made a deal with someone we probably have no business getting into bed with. You get burned, life gets a bit messy, and you have to eat pepper soup for awhile. That’s life I guess,” says Jordan Pirri, The Royal Volts’ guitarist and vocalist. “It’s the heaviest song we’ve done this far.”
The band will be releasing the new 6-song EP piecemeal throughout the remainder of 2019, culminating with a full unveiling in a January 2020, for a full international release.
The Royal Volts will be playing at Trunk 7 Music Festival in Musquodoboit Harbour on July 19th and also have several tour dates lined up for this summer that have yet to be announced.
