Award-winning Prince Edward Island dream pop up-and-comers Sorrey have no qualms about giving the cold shoulder and a warm boot. Their latest single, “Talking to Them,” is one step away from being the pop song equivalent of “new phone, who dis?”
While that dismissive attitude is all their own, the new single was crafted as part of Music PEI’s Golden Ticket program, designed to get emerging artists to record and release an export-ready single. Working with John MacPhee of Paper Lions (not to mention the added bonus of having SpinCount provide publicity for the release), the program provided a non-stop train that could take artists from creation to spins.
According to the band, “Talking to Them” is about making “the call to move on” and provides the backing dance track we all knew that “talk to the hand” always deserved. If you’ve got to shake your ex, there’s certainly something of a timeless precedent in managing it via song: Rod Stewart’s “Maggie May” and Leonard Cohen’s “Hey, That’s No Way To Say Goodbye” kept things classy, or at least catchy. If you’re going to veer too close to Ariane Grande’s “thank u, next,” maybe consider ghosting instead.

Sorrey’s debut full-length album will be released on Garment District Records in the fall of 2019. In the meantime, you can catch Sorrey while they join Tokyo Police Club for four dates during their upcoming spring Maritime 2019 tour in Moncton, Fredericton, Charlottetown & Halifax.
