Music Video: Dali Van Gogh Grow Their Cult with ‘East Coast Witches’

Halifax rock group Dali Van Gogh defend “Get Away” with an example of what happens to those who mock them. With the release of their latest single from their new album, Under Her Spell, they announce that they’ve entered an agreement with a nearby coven.

The band’s new video depicts a young man arriving at a bar and obviously distraught about something not obvious. Our guess: he had recently been rickrolled by someone he thought he could trust.

He continues to drink in an attempt to drive the song out of his head, but has difficulty until he’s approached by a woman. Soon after she joins him, the man begins to feel better about his situation, and becomes more lose. This is the moment that he’s lured outside and into a trap. Drugged and dragged off to a remote location, the woman and her two companions offer him as a sacrifice to some higher power.

We have a theory that it may be to the band itself; they left us a clue in one of the scenes. If you watch closely you can see a couple of devilish figures standing on the opposite side of the fire.

We have our top-notch science people attempting to enhance the images to identify those figures. We hope to have an update on that soon.

It’s not until after the music has stopped that we learn that the young man had reacted negatively to hearing the band just one week prior.

The video, “directed” by Andrew Hartlen, is cleverly disguised as an allegory of the witch hunt culture that has risen from the social media invading our lives. Hartlen has coincidentally now become the band’s dedicated videographer and photographer — a move that could be an attempt to keep him close to the group so he can’t reveal their darker secrets.

“We debuted the song at the Marquee Ballroom over a year ago and since then it has been a fan favourite in our set,” says Isaac Kent, the band’s dual class guitarist/wizard. This is when they became aware of the potential strength of the spell they had begun crafting.

With hints of a Foxy Lady singing through Bon Jovi’s talk box, listeners will be pleased to find familiar sounds seamlessly weaved into a new spell — one so powerful it will ensure the east coast takes Dali Van Gogh seriously.
