Kellie Loder is making a transition to the big screen with her newest single ‘Fearless.’ The track was written specifically for use in the trailer of the upcoming IMAX documentary, Superpower Dogs. The film follows the lives of various first responder dogs around the world and the roles they play to save lives. The film is narrated by Chris Evans, of Captain America fame, and is set to release in IMAX theatres on March 15th.
The song itself is a perfect fit for such a premise. Loder’s voice starts out inviting and vulnerable before building to a powerful cry in the chorus. It’s filled with an urgency that, when played over the imagery of heroic canines and beautiful landscapes around the world, creates a chilling effect.
Part of this success is due to the origins of the song and that it was written for that exact effect. However, Loder didn’t have the benefit of time to make sure every detail was perfect. She and co-writer Daniel Adams were able to bang out the track in a single weekend, though the result is anything but rushed. This process is even more surprising when considering a philosophy about song-writing Loder often follows:
“Someone once told me that songs are never finished,” Loder says. “At some point, you just have to stop because there are so many ways you can go about creating a song. For me a song is finished when it feels right; when I have painted the picture, said what I wanted to say the way I want to say it.”
Keeping that in mind, it’s even more impressive that such a short timeframe resulted in such a powerful song.The release is a proud beginning to a year that is already fighting to top the last. For Loder, 2018 held multiple Canadian tours as well as a handful of nominations for her most recent album, Benefit of the Doubt. She’s worked with a variety of talents including Ari Rhodes, Justin Gray, Damhnait Doyle, and Jerry Stamp. Now, her music is the backdrop for Hollywood star Chris Evans. With Loder’s talent, the heights of what she can achieve will likely continue to climb.
