Partner, the Polaris Prize short listers and SOCAN songwriting prize winner exports of Sackville, New Brunswick, announced today that they are following up their much acclaimed debut album In Search of Lost Time with an ode to Canadian music store chain Long and McQuade and a song of the same name.
Partner suggest that the new album will be taking the band towards a bold new future by exploring strange new avenues of both music and grey matter.
“The listener will find the band questioning the rules and questioning themselves, and, if they listen closely, a few tantalizing hints for what lies in store next,” says the official release.
The first direction the band venture off into is apparently to leave us questioning the lines between love songs and commercials. After all, what is a love song but an endorsement with a melody? And who among us hasn’t gotten roped into a long-term commitment with a music store (or at least lost an afternoon to one)?
“We wanted to make a song for the musicians, and what experience is more relatable to a Canadian musician than going to Long and McQuade?,” suggest the band. “The song just came out one day while we were talking about Long and McQuade and we liked singing it like Pearl Jam, so it stuck.”
Saturday the 14th will be released April 5, 2019, via You’ve Changed Records (CAN) and Father/Daughter Records (US).
