Today the East Coast Music Association announced their list of nominees for their 2019 Music Awards. At the very top of the list is Classified with seven nominations, Ben Caplan with six and, unsurprisingly, 2018 Polar Music Prize winner Jeremy Dutcher with five nominations. Fortunate Ones, Hillsburn, Paper Lions, and Neon Dreams follow, with four nominations each.
“We are thrilled to be returning to the beautiful city of Charlottetown in 2019 – a host city renowned for its hospitality and incredible live music,” says Andy McLean, Chief Executive Officer of the ECMA. “A huge thanks goes out to the Province of PEI and the city of Charlottetown for their support of homegrown musical talent and for recognizing the economic benefits the ECMAs bring as a cultural event to the Island. It’s going to be five days and nights of musical celebration and a surefire win-win for everyone!”
This year’s East Coast Music Awards will be held in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island from May 1-5, 2019 with returning host Jonathan Torrens.
The event will also include a partnership with Music PEI for a Canadian Songwriters Challenge that will allow selected artists to participate in workshops and panels, hone their skills, collaborate, and ultimately record two demos in a studio before pitching their songs in front of a panel of industry professionals.
There will also be a screening of award-winning filmmaker Millefiore Clarkes’ and songwriter Catherine MacLellan’s The Song & the Sorrow, a touching documentary about Catherine’s relationship with her father, legendary Canadian songwriter Gene MacLellan and his legacy.
