From her PEI Music Award nominated debut album, Your Masterpiece, Jenni & The Hummingbird has released “A Dark Horse,” the first in a series of three live performance videos. Combining a the beautiful space of Prince Edward Island’s St Mary’s Church in Indian River with a touch of sorcery and Jenni Roberge’s otherworldly showmanship.
Filmed by PEI director Millefiore Clarkes of One Thousand Flowers Productions (The Song and The Sorrow) the video captures the magic of Roberge’s live performances. The track includes musical accompaniment from The Atlantic String Machine’s Sean Kemp and Karen Graves on violin, Jeffrey Bazett-Jones on viola, and Natalie Williams Calhoun on cello, as well as singer-songwriter Joe MacMillan on bass.
“There are so many talented artists here on the Island alone, it would be ridiculous not to consider co-creating with them. I really wanted to demonstrate a live performance piece, though I also wanted to go beyond a simple live performance video and create audible and visual works of art,” says Roberge.
“Millefiore Clarke’s visuals marry my music blissfully. Our works seem to compliment each other so nicely, and it’s an absolute joy to work with her and see what she comes up with. I love playing with movement and using my entire being as a canvas – Clarkes truly paints that aspect of my performance into these videos with her graceful eye for art, and our mutual understanding of weirdness.
Adam Gallant, co-producer of my album Your Masterpiece, did sound for these videos, alongside an entire crew of talented artists. You won’t want to miss the next two!”
Jenni & The Hummingbird has yet to disclose the title of the next performance video, but says to expect its release in February, 2019.
