Award-winning Newfoundland trio The Ennis Sisters are marking their 9th annual Canadian Christmas Tour with the release of a festive video for their holiday single, “Hey There Snowflake.” Thankfully, they’re channeling classic three-part harmony sounds of the Andrews Sisters, and not the shouts of a Trump support rally. Let’s keep it cheery, folks.
The new track, penned by Maureen Ennis and writing partner Perry Chafe leans into the sounds of that bygone era, and it’s for the best. No respectable Christmas albums have been produced in the last forty years. And, yeah, I’m talking about you, Mariah Carey. I’ve got no time for your whistler register or mall walkers! Give me Bing Crosby or give me death!
“It speaks to the classic holiday hopes for a merry, stress-free, snowy Christmas with the added wish to make sure we take time during the season to truly celebrate and appreciate our own uniqueness in the world,” explain the sisters, in a perfectly tasteful octave range that can be heard by more than just dogs and children.
Directed by Shehab Illyas of Skylab Production the video provides a little Christmas magic in a classic dance hall vibe that also features Rosie Hunt, Alley Oop, Mick Davis, Craig Follet, Chris Donnelly, and a respectable piano solo from Wade Tarling. It’s classy to the point that we can accept it into the modern canon of Christmas music.
The sisters are currently in the midst of the Christmas tour that is talking them throughout cities and towns across Ontario, PEI, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia as well as their home province of Newfoundland.
