If it seems to you that Tomato/Tomato have been busy lately, you’d be right, but unless you’re paying attention that’s probably just the tip of the iceberg. The Saint John’s folk duo have touring far and wide (not to mention recording their latest album in Nashville and starting their own record label) and now we’ve got the video to prove it. Working with Hemmings House Pictures, the band have just released the video for “Take It On The Road,” the first single from their southern sojourn.
“There’s lots of juicy bits of footage in there,” says Tomato/Tomato’s Lisa McLaggen.
The video follows the pair from their home studio in Grand Bay, New Brunswick through performances at Saint John’s major Area 506 music festival, a show at Harbour Station opening for comedian James Mullinger, and Cavendish Beach.
The band even managed to grab some footage of themselves traveling to Campobello Island and England.
Naturally, as the “Take it on the Road” song title implies, the video is literally just that. They video shows the reality of being a touring musician. Most of it is just driving. You’d think there’d be some sort of long-haul truck driving side-gig available for bands on the road.
Despite all the work involved, the band say they still love getting out there and performing.
“Touring allows us to connect with so many people that we wouldn’t have otherwise met,” says Lisa. “We generally like people – and everywhere you go, there they are! It also gives us an opportunity to explore new places. How fun!”
Of course, Tomato/Tomato aren’t slowing down either. They’ve got a couple dates next month in New Brunswick, but then they’re heading Down Under for their third Australian tour where they’ll be playing two major festivals plus some great club dates!
