From his 2017 album The Traveller, Clifford Doucette, musically known as Elephant Skeletons, has released a new video for the track “All This Time.” The video pushes an aesthetics that screams “Undead Alice in Wonderland visits the Afterworld for a tarot-deck theme party.”
By watching the video, the most evident takeaway is that the video’s main character is working her way through a period of transition. The big one. The one that divides existence between those who pay taxes and those who formerly paid taxes.
Doucette explains that director Reid Morrison was responsible for the video’s main concept, which the team pulled directly from The Traveller‘s album artwork.
“He and I built upon his primary vision to tie it in with the song lyrics that tell the story of a ghost that is trying to remember what they left behind before moving on,” says Doucette.
While the video leans hard into the tarot theme, and heavy symbolism, Doucette says that what they represent, however, is not symbolism that exists verbatim in the traditional tarot deck. Rather the video inherits its themes, via the artwork, from the album as whole.
“I came up with the design for The Traveller artwork by pulling inspiration from the themes of the songs on the whole album. […] The album has a couple reoccurring themes including longing to be reunited with your loved one, time travel, and the journey of personal development.
The song that was used for this video in particular is about a ghost that is trying to remember what she left behind before moving on to her next phase in the afterlife.”
And this whole time we had been expecting fluffy clouds and cream cheese. Though we had heard rumours that God is a DJ.
