Deep Roots Music Festival are returning for their 15th year with an impressive lineup of folk rock. The Wolfville, Nova Scotia based festival boasts headliners that include Blue Rodeo’s Jim Cuddy, Canada’s dapper troubadours The Sadies, and song-writing legend Valdy.
“It was started by some music enthusiasts way back in the day who wanted showcase local talent as well as bring in a few big names so locals could see them as well,” explains Deep Roots Musical Festival’s Jim Murphy.
According to Murphy, who joined Deep Root’s board four years ago, the festival sounds like the perfect spot for those looking to milk that last bit of summer. Aside from all the music to be enjoyed, the festival, which is in Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley, “smells like apples and grapes.”
“We have a ton of local acts that get to perform on the Main Stage. We also have several hours of free shows both in doors and out. Almost everything is in walking distance of downtown Wolfville,” says Murphy.
“We have a parade for kids, puppet show, musicians in local schools, late night dances with cash bar, so something for everyone.”
For those happy to wind-down their summer festival experience with something more relaxing, the town boasts several soft-seaters; 1100, 500, and 150 seat theatres, all air-conditioned, including the 500 seat Acadia Festival Theatre. All are within an easy 200 yards of each other.
Murphy says that this year the performing acts have created quite a buzz. “Jim Cuddy, and especially William Prince on Thursday night. Then, of course, my buddy Valdy on Saturday…. We have a dance with The Sadies on Saturday night, which will be incredible. [But there’s] always a surprise from someone I don’t know.”

Kerr, Donna Holmes, Clary Croft, Shannon Lynch, Marilyn Manzer, Space Paddy Bog People, Wee Giant Theatre, Maritime Marionettes, and The Djugdjug Ensemble.
