The yearly competition to determine who has the most folky of folks kicked off today. The Canadian Folk Music Awards have announced their list of nominees for the 14th annual Folk-Off. 96 nominees were named across 19 categories, with East Coast folk getting (at least) 19 of those nods.
Chief among the nominees today were The LYNNeS, with 5 nominations in the categories of Contemporary Album Of The Year, Vocal Group Of The Year, Ensemble Of The Year, English Songwriters Of The Year, and Producers Of The Year. Second among the East Coasters is Newfoundland’s Matthew Byrne with 2 nominations, include Traditional Album Of The Year and Traditional Singer Of The Year.
Of course the official tallies get slightly thrown off when certain East Coast musicians list themselves as being recently adopted Torontonians, but we’re still proud of you.
