Fredericton craft brewers Trailway Brewing Co. have announced the purchase of the nearby north side Bowl-A-Drome property. The location will serve as new craft beer bar location for brewery with renovations beginning in early Spring of 2019.
The sale was complete as of 10:00am, September 17th, 2018, announced Trailway’s Jake Saunders. Trailway Brewing Co. began operating at their Main Street brewery and taproom in May, 2016. Their hoppy and citrusy American-style ales have distinguished themselves within New Brunswick, and proven popular enough to justify a secondary location.
Not that the combination of craft beer and bowling needs much justification.
Saunders says that their current location 280 Main Street, Fredericton will operate as usual, with 100% of the brewing being conducted there. The Bowl-A-Rama will function as separate craft beer bar, “The only craft beer bowling bar ’round these parts.”
“I’ve been to a bowling bar in Toronto and had a great time,” says Saunders. “We saw the value in the property and what it could potentially become. There are very few options for fun evening activities in this city. We want (and think) that bowling can appeal to a much younger (later night) crowd. So, putting a craft beer twist on it and with some cool vibes in there we’re confident this place can go strong into the future.”
News of the purchase broke this morning on the brewery’s social media, followed by this post this afternoon:
“Well the news is out, but we are very excited to officially announce we are the proud new owners of the Bowl-a-Drome! The Bowl-a-Drome has been a well-respected staple on the Northside of Fredericton for just over 57 years now, and we are honoured and thrilled to take it over and continue to help revitalize this area.
Our vision is to turn this location into a craft beer and bowling destination with a simple, unique and eclectic food menu. The beer menu will include Trailway beer and all other local breweries as well, in addition to many beers from breweries outside of the province who we admire and enjoy!
We respect the previous owner’s wishes that staff and regular league play remain undisturbed for the near future, so the Bowl-a-Drome will operate as usual until early 2019. At that point, we will close for a short time, complete renovations and open again as a brand-new, re-branded craft beer bar and bowling alley.”
Saunders says that, while we’ll have to wait until the Spring to see the new bar in person, we’ll only have to wait a short while before they begin releasing drawings and further details. In the meantime, watch their new Facebook page for upcoming announcements.
