Single: Moira Bren Branches Out for Solo Debut with ‘Wish’

Moira Bren is branching out on her own. Already half of the sisterly duo Moira & Claire that released the popular single “Your Voice,” Moira is taking a moment to explore solo work. She’s released “Wish,” a song that, suitably enough, grasps the double-edged sword of being apart from the people you care about.

“I wrote Wish during the summer of 2014, after moving from Western Canada to the East Coast,” says Moira. “The song describes a birthday party, a longing for someone, and disappointment. I was never quite sure what the song meant to me personally, but it may have been a wish for the friends and family I left behind that year.”

It’s more than simply a song about a subject familiar to many students, as they experience extended time away from their families often for the first time in their lives. The 19-year-old musician is studying Psychology at St. Francis Xavier University and is incorporating her inclination towards psychology into her music as well as her cover art.

As a person living with synesthesia, she has depicted this condition in the art for the track by making the candle letters in the image correspond to the color she sees them as in her head. The “W” is reddish-orange, the “I” is blue, and the “S” and “H” are yellow. For this she even made the candles herself by using a letter mold, ensuring the colours were exactly how she wanted them.

Following this solo debut Moira will be returning to work with her sister Claire for their next single, which promises to be a “quirky Christmas tune.” They are hoping to release their new track in November, so we can all add it to our Christmas playlists with plenty of time to spare.
