Single: Levi Rowan Explores Temptation with ‘Devil Do It Right’

Saint John rapper Levi Rowan takes a turn for the dark(er) side with his new standalone single, “Devil Do It Right.” The song takes a look at temptation as sacrifice when viewed from the right perspective. But sometimes, to get the things you want, you just need more of the things you want.

Levi Rowan explains the song as a journey—almost an anti-hero’s ironic tragedy told in an arcing rock opera. In the first half of “Devil Do It Right” our champion is being consumed by materials, lies and substances. Not that we’re imposing any sense of immorality on that. We all need hobbies.

“He lies to himself and to others to continue on a path of all things taboo,” says Levi of the character’s downward spiral.

The second half of the tale sees the corruption of the character, as he is completely consumed by his vices. To satisfy his wanton desires he in turn transforms himself into what he feels is most desirable: the bad boy, the track’s titular “devil,” a perpetuator of corruption.

“I’m in a good place. I don’t do anything I don’t want to do. It’s something that affects all of us to a degree,” says Levi. “I wanted to make something a little darker, and my producer Daniel James of Bleum was experimenting with those sounds so it came together easily. Going back to my roots in a sense.”

“Sometimes you gotta check yourself and make sure you’re becoming the person you want to be, but that’s the struggle we all go through living in a world of greed and narcissism,” continues Levi, echoing the eternal wisdom of Ice Cube.

“Devil Do It Right” is the first in a series released by Levi Rowan. Levi says he will be releasing a fresh track each week until he runs out of tracks to release.
