Husband and wife pop-rockers Soul Filter have debuted their first single, “Armor.” Hailing from Summerside, Prince Edward Island, the alternative indie newcomers are prepping for their introductory album A Minor Conspiracy, currently being produced at BigDogz Recording Studio.
“It feels really fulfilling to be finally releasing a single after all this time,” said lead vocalist Karen Penton. “A lot of work & passion has gone into this.”
Inspired by 90’s soft rock artists such as Alanis Morisette and Sheryl Crow, “Armor” combines an acoustic rhythm with dreamy electric guitar riffs, all held together by Karen Penton’s soul-baring lyrics about fear of love and vulnerability. Think Avril Lavigne but with a few more instruments.
“It’s kind of a personal song,” said Penton. “Just how I’ve felt in the past about being scared to be vulnerable about love and relationships, and I know a lot of people feel the same; we wear some type of mask, or armour, to protect ourselves.”
“We all have fears, vulnerabilities, things about ourselves we don’t like, and it’s really ok to be vulnerable and risk getting your heart broken sometimes.”
Penton also remarks that the house featured in the video bears an important symbolism to the track’s theme of past fears manifesting.
“The abandoned house featured in the video was where my grandfather grew up. I had forgotten about it when I first thought of the original video concept. It was brought to my attention again when relatives were visiting and I instantly knew it was perfect for this video; bringing the ghosts of the past to the present.”
“Armor” is available on all streaming and downloading platforms such as Google Play, Spotify, iTunes and Amazon. Listeners will recognize the single in A Minor Conspiracy, releasing at the beginning of October, alongside another upcoming single being released at the end of August.
