Nova Scotian musician T. Thomason is about to embark on a cross-Canada tour, but not without some branded material in the arsenal. The tour gets its own namesake single: “Bliss.”
“I wrote it quite a while ago and it never fit on any other projects,” says Thomason. “I’m so glad it found a home on this one.”
Thomason also explains that the new track is a gentle introduction to the new direction his sound is taking and that he’s excited for people to hear it in the coming months of the tour.
Thomason’s latest explores the ever-important lesson that fear is only temporary, and once you overcome fear, happiness and relief await on the other side. It also appears that the majority of the verses attribute this wisdom to his mother and father, directly mentioning them and frequently including the lyric “he/she taught me this.”
“I hope it can provide folks with a little moment of calm, maybe a reminder to step back, breathe,” says Thomason. “Appreciate where you are and where you’re going.”
Musically, Thomason’s blend of lyrics and curiously-constructed vocoder are the clear standouts, with just the two of them sharing the spotlight for a solid chunk of the track. The vocoder also includes a duopoly of a very high tone and a very low tone, possibly mirroring references to the mother and father that Thomason mentions in the song, carrying their wisdom with him as he finds bliss past his fears. Also of note is the parallel of the guitar and keyboard, providing a musically-attractive melody with an excellent auditory conduit.
Thomason’s Bliss Summer Tour will be taking the England-born performer to Alberta, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and New Brunswick.
