Fredericton-based solo project DenMother, also known as Sabarah Pilon, has offered us a sneak peek of their new track, “That’s All.” DenMother’s single is featured on the compilation album Approaches by Patient Records, alongside artists such as Wangled Teb, Property//, and Counting on Downstairs.
“I am really pumped to be part of this compilation,” said Pilon, “I get really excited when anyone shows any interest in DenMother.”
In “That’s All,” Pilon elected to keep things easy to follow. With a synth pad reminiscent of outer space starting and ending the track, listeners will also be greeted by incredibly deep, bass-ridden drums and, most prominently, the echoed vocals that monologue about a broken heart, broken trust and a person who turned out to not be a very great person.
“I wrote that track as a knee-jerk reaction to something that I probably didn’t have any right to be upset about,” said Pilon. “But I was angry and hurt and annoyed because break-ups are sometimes really dumb.”
“It was just a way to get past my thought traps without taking it out on a specific person. That way, I could sort of ball up a bunch of different and past things together and wrap them up into one nice little package.”
You can listen to “That’s All” and the rest of Patient Record’s compilation, Approaches, on Bandcamp.
