Prince Edward Island’s Loyal Thieves are one of just two Canadian bands to be featured on the 18-song soundtrack for the latest in NASCAR racing games. The band’s song “Nowhere Fast” will be appearing on the game, titled NASCAR Heat 3.
Loyal Thieves, originally known as Banokkburn, formed in 2013, consisting of Darcy Cudmore (vocals, guitar), Ian Murray (lead guitar), Daniel Cudmore (bass), Cody Cudmore (guitar) and JD Geldert (drums).
Cudmore explains that the band started, as most bands do, simply jamming in basements, but the band quickly discovered a popular appeal and took off.
“We recorded some demos and submitted them to a Battle of the Bands put on by the local rock station, Q93. [We were] playing regularly and as often as we could,” says Cudmore.
“Over the next few years, we played over a hundred shows across the Maritime provinces, most of them being in our hometown of Charlottetown.”
The band followed up on their momentum by recording with Jon Matthews at the Sound Mill Recording Studio, changing their name from Banokkburn to Loyal Thieves and releasing a 6-song EP in May, 2015. They began opening for bands like Gloryhound, the Meds, Mayhemingways, Bryan Potvin & Kevin Kane, Alert the Medic and more.
Sadly, the band haven’t performed together lately, with most of the members now living outside of Prince Edward Island. Being proud of what they’d accomplished though, they continued to market the songs, finally landing an opportunity to appear on NASCAR Heat 3.
“It certainly is a unique opportunity and not something you’d predict to happen with one of your songs,” says Cudmore about the fresh experience. “Growing up playing video games and hearing the classic songs that have been featured over the years, it’s pretty cool to hear our song associated with the game.”
The Loyal Thieves will be in good company on the soundtrack, as they join Neo-Zepplinites and rising stars Greta Van Fleet, who will be appearing with their hit-song “Highway Tune”. The other Canadian band appearing on the NASCAR Heat 3 soundtrack are Pack AD out of Vancouver, British Columbia.
While being in somewhat dispersed state, the band say they’ve recently talked about future plans. The recent response may spark a call for some fresh material and maybe even a tour.
“We’re close and talk all the time; 2019 could be a fun year for us. It’s exciting to get some love with “Nowhere Fast” in this video game,” says Cudmore.
NASCAR Heat 3 will be available Friday, September 7, 2018, when it is released for Playstation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC via Steam. For more information on NASCAR Heat 3 visit www.nascarheat.com.
