Music Video: Wordburglar Brings Chiac To Toronto With ‘Je Ne Care Pas’

Wordburglar might have just hit a personal best (and that’s including his hi-score in Nintendo Power). His usual mix of clever lyrics and subtle shout outs to nerd culture get us going, but toss in a Chiac chorus and c’est right bon. Check out Wordburglar’s new video for “Je Ne Care Pas.”

Filmed in and around Toronto with the help of Wordburglar’s Maritime pals Nathan Boone, director from Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, and Byron Kutchera, cinematographer from Halifax, his new track “Je Ne Care Pas” takes Burg on a philosophical journey towards… whatever. He’s not worried about it.

Working with long-time collaborator, friend and beat producer Fresh Kils. Wordburglar brings us the wisdom of just letting things go. After all, life in 2018 feels more like a frantic dash to catch scattershot with your teeth than anything else.

“Life is full of heartbreaks, gigs that don’t work out, plans that fall through and opportunities that don’t materialize—but to quote Monty Python, ‘Always look on the bright side of life,'” says Burg.

And for all that, Wordburglar has summoned up the perfect expression, the “hakuna matata” of the east coast: “Je ne care pas.” We can’t even be bothered to commit to any one language.

“Honestly, this was an expression we all used to say as kids so I never thought twice about it growing up in Nova Scotia,” says Burg. “The point of the song is pretty simple: just don’t sweat the small stuff.

“‘Je Ne Care Pas’ has become my mantra for when I catch myself getting stressed—I just pause, take a deep breath and exhale: ‘Je Ne Care Pas.’ Sure it’s silly, but that’s the point—’cause it’s silly to get worked up over little things that aren’t gonna lead to something productive.

“I think the song speaks for itself, because it’s really very simple, but we all forget it too often—don’t sweat the small stuff. It’s about staying positive when things are getting you down. Because ‘The more your effort goes to negativity, the further away you stray from an epiphany,'” explains Burg, pulling directly from the song lyrics. “I find when I relax my mind that’s when I’m the most productive, and positivity is contagious. The world could always use more, right?”
