In the spirit of rock and roll tropes, Saint John’s Tooth & the Fang have released a standalone video for their new single “Lady of a Thousand Clouds” that takes viewers through a leisurely afternoon breakfast routine. While the early bird may get the worm, the late riser gets brinner, and that’s a million times better than worms.
Geoffrey Smith, the man behind the song, the video, the lifestyle, endorses the concept that there’s no wrong time for breakfast. Life (and its accompanying meals) sometimes happens at its own pace, regardless of the habits of large revolving gaseous bodies.
The video, which we suspect to be a true likeness of Smith, devoid of any fiction or artifice, was created with Saint John photographer and videographer Hunter Wilson. It captures the artist perfectly in his natural habitat.
“It was a lot of fun. We had a tasty breakfast!” says Smith.
“It was an idea that originally came from thinking that the video would be me eating an entire package of bacon to myself, but we ended up doing a less grotesque version. I think it conveys that making breakfast well into the day is always a great idea.”
While it might be his “Lady of a Thousand Clouds” that Smith is hoping to linger with, coming down from the high of bacon and eggs is a sweet comparison.
“’Lady of a Thousand Clouds’ is just a Lil pop ditty, but it’s nice that I really didn’t have to ‘write’ the lyrics. The life I’m living wrote them and I just had to take a picture of it,” continues Smith, who says he’s attributes much of his songwriting inspiration from Mark Kozelek of the Red House Painters (and Almost Famous).
“I’ve been listening to a lot of Mark Kozelek, especially his newest releases. He just sings about what’s going in in the moment or what he’s thinking about at the moment he’s recording the tune. It’s crazy to hear someone just talk about their life without holding anything back.”
And let’s be honest, how often do you think about enjoying a well-deserved rest followed by fashionably late breakfast. It’s surprising there aren’t more songs about this.
