From June 15-17, female motorcyclists from across the country and beyond will gather once again for the third annual Backroad Ball—a women-only motorcycle campout and adventure weekend in Penobsquis. Those attending this year can look forward to a weekend filled with live music, fire performers, burlesque, pole dancers, yoga and more.
Being the first and only women-only motorcycle festival in Atlantic Canada, the event’s aim is to create and nurture a sense of community among female motorcyclists from near and far.
“This year, we’re expecting nearly 300 women,” says festival co-organizer Heather d’Entremont-Macdonald.
“Our favourite part of the event is seeing women ride up on their motorcycles Friday afternoon. Some ladies are coming from nearby towns like Sussex, while others have been on the road for several weeks already. One incredible rider is coming from Vancouver Island and is travelling nearly 6,700 kilometres to attend the Backroad Ball.”
Performing at the festival will be musician Katey Day from Moncton, New Brunswick, musician Christine Campbell from Halifax, Nova Scotia, DJ Malfunction, Port City Circus, SNAP! Burlesque and professional pole dancers Anneke Russell and Christine Johnson.
Festival-goers can also look forward to morning yoga, karaoke, a bonfire and a workshop for helping participants find their inner goddess. What’s more, tattoo artists will be onsite to ink any lady who signs up for one of the open tattoo slots Friday or Saturday.
“Since holding our first event back in 2016, we have more than doubled our participation and number of sponsors,” says festival co-organizer Kristin Munro.
“We love working with local businesses to bring these women to this part of the province, but we also work with international brands who probably didn’t even know Penobsquis existed before we reached out to them. Without the support of our sponsors, the Backroad Ball would simply not be possible.”
The third annual Backroad Ball takes places June 15th-17th, 2018 in Penobsquis, New Brunswick. Registration for the event is already open online, but those interested in attending need to act quick as it closes end of day June 11th and there’s no registration at the door.
