Fredericton’s newest eletronica duo are making a name for themselves. Bleum are preparing to hit up some of the biggest festivals on the east coast this summer, and in anticipation of that they’ve released their second single today, “Everything.”
“‘Everything’ is a song about human connection. It’s about sharing an overwhelmingly emotional moment, both happy and sad, with someone you love,” says Bleum’s Brittany McQuinn.
The sentiment skims across a chill track as Bleum delve through adoration, devotion, confusion and unrequited love—or at the very least unrequited expression.
Sharing an experiencing with another person seems to be crucial to Bleum’s ethos as the duo interact in a collaborative Postal Service-style hand-off.
“When creating a Bleum song we’re flexible and open to however it ends up coming together,” explains McQuinn. “‘Everything’ was a song Daniel wrote. If one of us has made a song solo, we’ll send it to the other person to add to it. Sometimes no changes are made, sometimes one of us writes a second verse, bridge, or changes a vocal melody. In this case, I heard a different chord progression in my head, keyed out a midi track for it and sent it over to him. So ‘Everything’ is a combo of one persons lyrics and vocal melody and the other persons chord progression.”
“Our mindset is that we do whatever is best for the music. Cultivating creative freedom within Bleum is our only rule.”
McQuinn says that Bleum has lots of music currently in the works but in the meantime you can catch them across New Brunswick this summer The Capital Complex in Fredericton, Folly Fest and Evolve.
