We hope you’re ready for your morning dance party, because Halifax’s Natalie Lynn is releasing ‘Company,’ the first single from her upcoming EP and she’s going to have you dancing around like the second coming of Cyndi Lauper meets Gwen Stefani.
While we might hearing shades of No Doubt (‘It’s My Life’ immediately comes to mind), Natalie Lynn has been hard at work with producer John Mullane of JUNO Award-nominated In-Flight Safety.
Natalie explains that she had written ‘Company’ almost three years ago now. It was the first song she brought to the table to record with Mullane in 2017 and it ended up setting the tone for the rest of the EP.
“It was Ryan Perry, my long-time band member, who sort of pulled this track out of the pile of many I was writing at the time, and really put it in the running,” says Natalie Lynn. “Since this track was our starting point for the rest of the project, every decision was precious and we took our time getting it exactly how we wanted.”
With ‘Company,’ Natalie examines the double-edged sword of being young just once. And judging by the video, the loss of appreciation for hanging out in parking lots.
“I was reflecting on the feelings I had growing up and the people that made it so fun and crazy. The song, to me, really takes on a meaning of feeling completely and 100% okay with the way things turned out. Being super aware of everything going on around you, but how after the fact it’s totally cool.
It was after all the pieces of the song were put together in the recording that the final line ‘If You Want To Go, Go’ was added from a collab with John. I think that line really fulfills the songs entire agenda. That said, it ended up replacing the actual line that we named the song after, but was definitely worth it and makes for a good lol.”
While details on Natalie Lynn’s upcoming EP are still scarce, you can catch her on tour in the meantime.
