Recent Alberta import and Halifax musician Taylor Ackerman is about to release his debut EP Taylor Ackerman’s Global Acid Reset. If ‘Never Ever‘, the first video for the release, is anything to go by we’re going to get an earful of something rich and heavy.
Ackerman relocated from Alberta to Halifax in the summer of 2016 so his partner could attend the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. The shake-up in lifestyles has seen Ackerman take on a role as a stay at home dad, and making a little music when he can.
Produced by Analog Songs, the video for ‘Never Ever’ offers as stripped-down version of the song that. We seem to find Ackerman trying to find a balance in the two roles, and how the rest of the world perceives anyone prepared to wear either of those hats, let alone simultaneously.
Ackerman’s own reasoning behind the song runs deep. Where the lyrics leave plenty of room for speculation, it’s just the tip of the iceberg of Ackerman’s experience.
“It’s about the self and society, and their relationships. For example, once I had a child I realized how concepts like sharing and equality don’t really transfer from toddlerhood to adult life,” explains Ackerman.
“I didn’t want to just write more love songs or party tunes. I also try to leave the message open ended so that the listener can apply their own life experience and find meaning in it. I realized that practicing what you preach as a bleeding heart lefty became much more difficult once becoming a parent, but I think the take away is that classic saying that ‘life isn’t a destination but a journey…’ and to not give up even though a person makes mistakes or can’t see the benefits of positive social change.”
Taylor Ackerman’s Global Acid Reset is out on March 23rd, 2018.
