Into The Night have announced one hell of a way to spend your St. Patrick’s Day weekend. Formerly reserved a solemn two days of hangover recovery, Groundswell Music have decided you might put those days to better use during their takeover of Olympic Hall in Halifax. Today they’ve provided justification with the announcement of the festival’s full lineup.
Starting on March 16th, 2018 the festival kicks off with previously announced headliners and Juno-nominees The Flatliners along with local rockers Like A Motorcycle and recent lineup additions Outtacontroller and Spirit of the Wildfire.
March 17th gets dangerous with what they’ve billed as a “19+ record fair,” because what you really need in your life is the combination of vinyl and alcohol. The event will include hundreds of vinyl titles for sale from local sellers including rare and collectible vinyl, new releases, classics, 45s, and a whole lot of Garrison Brewing Co. on tap. Hosted by Black Buffalo Records, the day include performances from Juno award winners Said The Whale, Cape Breton’s #1 ice skating announcers The Town Heroes, along with Rain Over St. Ambrose and The Drug Rugs.
“This year we had a lot of bands apply for a support slot at Into The Night. Not surprising… who wouldn’t want to open for The Flatliners and Said The Whale?! These four bands have been making an impression in the Halifax music scene and we’re lucky to have them part of our lineup this year,” says festival organizer Caroline Murphy.
Murphy had a whole lot to say about this year’s lineup, with a whole lot of enthusiasm.
“Spirit of the Wildfire were recently nominated for an ECMA and we’re excited to have these guys open on night one of into The Night! The band bring a high energy show and combine a diverse array of influences from Ska to Hip Hop, with a hard-hitting punk aggression.
We’ve been a fan of Outtacontroller for a few years now. An influence of power-punk pioneers such as The Ramones and The Buzzcocks with tongue-in-cheek wit and infectious melodies. They are no strangers to the punk scene and we’re pumped to hear their new EP ‘No Echo’ live!
If you haven’t seen these guys perform live, you’re seriously missing out! The sophomore full-length from Rain Over St. Ambrose reverberates with anthemic singalongs, swampy fuzzed-out riff rock, and swirling synths. If you want a fun night out – their music will get you moving, even if you don’t want to move. FACT!
The Drug Rugs were students of the music business program at NSCC, just like so many other bands around Halifax. These guys blew everyone out of the water during Nova Scotia Music Week with their psychedelic pop. We’re in for a real treat on St. Paddy’s night!”
Into The Night takes place March 16th-17th, 2018, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Tickets and Information are available online at www.intothenight.ca.
