It’s comeback season. We don’t have scientific proof of this yet, but we’re working on it. In the meantime we have some raw data from Sleepless Nights who have just released their first single in six years, this time in the form of ‘Crystal Mountains’.
Once upon a time, Sleepless Nights were a band to be reckoned with. They were an unstoppable force touring far and wide across the land until, like many bands, they simply weren’t. In 2009 the band went on an indefinite hiatus and were heard from no more…
They didn’t vanish into the air though. In 2011 the band struggled with recapturing some of their magic, not to mention several of their previously performed but as yet unrecorded songs. Sadly, it wasn’t meant to be, and their efforts sputtering.
Then, like a midlife crisis, they were spurred back into action. Approaching their 10 year anniversary of their breakout EP, Hang Up, Sleepless Nights made the equivalent decision of purchasing a sports car by heading back to the studio and announcing a tour.
In honour of past victories the band are paying homage to the one thing that hasn’t changed for the band: Keith Hamilton.
“Keith is our undeserved secret weapon. He’s our Bez. He’s the DJ Khaled of indie rock. He’s a fashion icon to future generations,” says Aaron Wallace.
“He is the unofficial twenty-second member of the band. No question,” adds Josh “Pinky” Pothier, the group’s drummer, jokingly (perhaps accurately) referring to the sheer number of members the band has had over time according to their press release.
Hamilton was the first to book the Halifax band for their first show outside of the Maritimes. A fixture of the Toronto music scene, Hamilton has stuck with the band as a booker, a musician, and as good a friend as might justify having an album named for him.
The new EP, Keith Hamilton, is officially being released via Acadian Embassy and Forward Music Group on Friday, September 15th, smack dab in the middle of an East Coast tour.
