The ninth annual Best of Saint John Music Awards are almost upon us again, and so it’s time to stir up all the 2016 releases and see what floats to the top.
Last year saw a passing of the torch from BBQ Records’ Chuck Teed. Now being organized by Local 107.3fm, the operation is being headed up by station manager Brian Cleveland, “Chuck left us with very sound plans for how to pull the Music Poll off. With his template, advice, and well-wishes, it was easier to pull off than it should have been and we were very happy with the results.”
“With regards to the current state of Saint John’s music scene, I’ve been under the impression that it’s been very strong and seeing some significant growth over the last five years,” says Cleveland “A decade ago, there were few active local bands or venues, but now there are at least a half dozen regular venues and two dozen local EPs and albums.”
Submissions for the poll can be made online in thirteen different categories until May 15th when the full list of nominees will be announced. Winners will be announced later this Spring at the annual awards show, taking place at the Sanctuary Theatre on Saturday, May 27th.
