Scotian-born/Toronto-based AA Wallace is set to release his next LP In Alpha Zones on March 11th, but in the meantime he’s offering up a tease for eager listeners: a shiny new video for ‘Shake It Out’.
The track is an older gem pulled from Wallace’s collection, all the way back in 2011. Those were darker times: Amy Winehouse had succumbed to alcohol and misadventure, the 99% were occupying Wall Street’s back forty, and Charlie Sheen was winning. The original arrangement is perhaps suitably dark and flat, like a mirror universe version where Wallace is almost certainly sporting a goatee.
But those were the lonely days of Wallace’s solo career. If the legends are true, Wallace crafted his first album in his bedroom from nothing more than an Atari and a few bits of aluminium foil. Now with a full band, or at least a rotating roster that amounts to the same, he’s dusted it off and polished it up with a fuller, funkier, upbeat synth-pop feel, better suited to fist pumping than boot stomping. The video itself is a reminder that even the most mundane of tasks can become a personal party if the right soundtrack is applied. Wearing the right footwear might also be compulsory.
Wallace is touring later this month in support of the album, and will be stopping at plenty of places through the Maritimes:
March 29 – Charlottetown, PE @ Baba’s Lounge
March 30 – Saint John, NB @ Pub Down Under
March 31 – Fredericton, NB @ The Capital
April 01 – Moncton, NB @ Tide & Boar
April 02 – Halifax, NS @ The Seahorse Tavern
