Dylan Menzie’s latest single might be the Jesus-take-the-wheel moment we’re all due for. “Have Faith,” the second single to be released from his Lost in Dreams album isn’t necessarily religious, but a reminder to believe yourself, the fact that you have survived thus far, and along with your accumulated skills (and a little luck), may continue to so.
Menzie’s “Have Faith” isn’t a nod to George Michael (it’d be too much to handle with all this social distancing), but a bolstering shot in the arm that says we can all handle this if we just Tinkerbell our way out of it. Probably.
The song’s release is either apropos or conspicuously timely, given that no one even batted an eye at the American government acknowledging the presence of UFOs. One way or another (it’s probably going to be the murder hornets) 2020 is the year we’re all going to learn patience and, more importantly, self-reliance.
“Have Faith is a song about self-reflection and love,” says Menzie. “I wrote it for those who are feeling confused or unsure about who they are or where they’re going. It’s a reminder that we can’t control the world around us, or the actions of others and we need to have faith in ourselves and roll with the punches.”
Which is about as wide a swath as you can cut right now. With the lot of us poised on the edge of depression and a depression, if you’re not including yourself in that demographic you should either be taking another look at the news, or preparing to be eaten by the proletariat.
It’s all part and parcel with Menzie’s new collection of songs, the appropriately titled Lost in Dreams. He’s branching out on a creative journey that “earnest folk music “more abstract and ethereal territory.” He’s ranging from Pop-inspired tunes to Country/Americana, with “Have Faith” obviously falling closer to the latter.
Dylan Menzie’s album Lost In Dreams, is expected to be released on May 22, 2020.
