Single: Whitney Rose Goes From Too Much Time on the Road to Not Enough on ‘In a Rut’

Prince Edward Island born/Austin, Texas-based recording artist, and 2016 winner of the East Coast Music Award for Country Album of the Year and The Ameripolitan Awards’ Honky Tonk Female of the Year, Whitney Rose, has released her single, “In a Rut,” a song written in the wake of a panic-attack that bloomed at the end of a stint of hard touring.

Ironically, the inspiration, if you can call it that, for “In a Rut” came about while Whitney Rose was spending an over-abundance of time on the road. With too many shows and too little downtime it all came to halt in a Charlotte, North Carolina dressing room melt-down in February, 2019. Rose wrapped up her tour, headed for home, and within two day of unpacking the song had manifested itself.

Now, with the release of “In a Rut” coming at a time when none of us are able to go anywhere, Rose says she hopes that the song serves a purpose in a time where the world could use a little boost. It’s an odd twist of circumstances, but whatever way you look at it, it’s about not being exactly where you want to be.

“I wrote the song when I was in an immense personal rut back in February, 2019,” explains Whitney Rose. “It’s all I could think about and I just kept telling myself I’m in a rut, and I’ll get out of it. Turns out we’re all in a rut right now, but we’ll collectively get out of it. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Always is.”

“In a Rut” will appear on Whitney Rose’s fifth studio album, We Still Go to Rodeos, which is set to be released on April 24, 2020. Produced by Paul Kolderie (Radiohead, Hole, The Pixies, Uncle Tupelo, Toots and The Maytals, Lou Reed), We Still Go to Rodeos will include twelve original Whitney Rose recordings.
