Matt Steele & the Corvette Sunset are wringing out the last bit of summer with their latest action-packed music video, “It Won’t Happen Again” comes from the band’s 2018 album Half Girl, Half Ghost, and provides a great retrospective look at lessons learned the hard way.
The video catches Matt Steele & Co pitted against a rival band in a Dutch stand-off – just waiting to see who pulls their finger out of the dike first.
No one knows exactly how it began — perhaps someone was a little slow on their load-out times, maybe someone accidentally took home the wrong mic stand — but whatever it grudges the bands held for each other were settled that fateful day at the Battle of Point Pleasant Park, Halifax. Bristling with an arsenal of water balloon, squirt guns and water cannons, both sides would see plenty of casualties and wet clothes.
If anything was made clear that day, it’s that water fights have no winners.
Steele, who has had plenty of time to look back on events, chooses to see things with a silver lining.
“We’re all getting bummed that the temperature is going down,” says Steele. “Let’s think about how much fun we had this summer instead.”
Fortunately, videographer Jeff Miller was on hand to document the battle as it unfolded. Miller had previously worked with Matt Steele & The Corvette Sunset, having directed and edited their video for “Hand Shake Deal.”
“Working with Jeff is so easy,” says Devin Fox, bass player for the Corvette Sunset. Fox says they had not prepared for the battle, aside from the band’s $150 compliment of water guns which they always keep on hand, particularly during picnics.
This week Matt Steele & the Corvette Sunset will be making their first residency show at The Local in Halifax, where they will be performing every Tuesday for all of November.
