It’s hard to believe that it’s been a whole year since The Trews released their last album, Civilianaires, mostly because it’s still in heavy rotation and regularly providing the anthem for spontaneous office dance parties. The album proves the band haven’t lost their edge at all; debuting at #1 on the Alternative Album Chart, their JUNO nomination for Rock Album of the Year, and winning them Rock Group of The Year at Canadian Music Week’s Jim Bean Indie Awards. So it’s a little curious when “Touch,” the new video from The Trews, is all about feeling disconnected. Maybe that rock and roll lifestyle has been just a little bit too good.
The Trews’ Colin MacDonald explains that the track is one in a string of successes from working with producer Derek Hoffman, and hints that there’s plenty to more to come.
“We’ve written a lot of tunes in the past two years, here’s one of the latest from our very fruitful collaboration with the incredible Derek Hoffman,” says MacDonald. “This is a conversation set to some catchy chords and a pretty melody. It’s about feeling disconnected and trying your best to reconnect.”
And maybe that suggests the band feel they’ve been disconnected from too much time spent in the studio but, fortunately, they’ve got tour lined up across Ontario, including a special performance in Kingston for “Rockin’ the Big House” at the Kingston Penitentiary. The show has them performing alongside members of The Tragically Hip, Headstones and more. Check out the rest of the tour dates below.
