Knotty by Nature, the annual music festival held on the grounds of The Ovens Natural Park in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, was scheduled to take place on September 7th, but nature* had other plans in mind. With Hurricane Dorian heading up the Atlantic Seaboard, festival organizers have pulled the plug on what would have been the festival’s 7th year.
The new came today via The Ovens Natural Park’s social media:
“It is with great regret that we must cancel the Knotty by Nature Music Festival this year.
We have been diligently watching the weather for this upcoming weekend, and the projections for hurricane Dorian show that it is going to have a major impact on the coast. In the park the forecast is calling for wind gusts of over 100km/h on Saturday night with a high risk of torrential rain and storm surge – not the best conditions for an outdoor performance!
Here’s hoping there will be better weather for next year’s show!”
The festival takes place on the southern shore of Nova Scotia and falls just off the path of hurricane Dorian, which is expected to affect many of the Atlantic provinces this week. Forecasts show as much as 150km/h winds hitting nearby Sable Island on Saturday afternoon, with 50mm to 100mm of rain in the vicinity.
This year’s lineup would have included Shawn Hebb, Gabriel Minnikin, Morgan Davis, Corey Isenor, Liam Frier, Know Issue, Willie Stratton and The Salty Shakes.
Festival organizers say that refunds will be made to anyone who had already purchased tickets and that the festival will continue as usual next year, provided they’re not being subjected to any more hurricanes.
