From their debut album, Musical Chairs, Youngtree & The Blooms are revisiting their favourite perennial topic of our temporary natures, that is to say, death. Filmed by videographer (and possibly the best iceberg photographer in Newfoundland) Tom Cochrane at the Rocket Room in downtown St. John’s, NL, the band turned a private evening of song into a celebration of their charmingly morbid toe-tappers. Second among the videos to be released from the evening is “Dirt Party,” a reminder that ultimately there’s one one final party we ever need to worry about.
Co-written by Peter Youngtree with album producer and winner of MusicNL’s inaugural Ron Hynes Songwriter of the Year award, Chris Kirby (who is coincidently releasing an album of his own) the song hammers on in the vein of “don’t bother trying to take it with you.” These earthly pleasures and delights are fleeting.
“The song is ultimately about enjoying life while you’ve still got it and recognizing that we’re all headed to the same party in the end – that’s the Dirt Party!” says Youngtree.
The video comes as part of what appears to be a series from the full evening of events, beginning with the raucous “Ten Million Ways to Decay,” another ode to endings. For a band so focused on death, they’ve sure got a lot of energy.
The release also comes with the announcement that Peter Youngtree & The Blooms will be embarking on on a 7-show tour a swath of Atlantic Canada, with stops in Corner Brook, Rose Bay, Dartmouth, Berwick, Saint John, and Saint Andrews (sorry Prince Edward Island.)
