Single: Fractal Code Gets High and Mighty With ‘Fresh Herbs’

Bass junky Fractal Code has dropped a new single, “Fresh Herbs,” in celebration of Canada’s first legal April 20th. The psychedelic DJ and his extraterrestrial repertoire of sounds are right at home with the theme of marijuana, and he goes out of his way to make his fondness known.

“This track is meant to make you feel at home but also very far away,” says Cody Martin, the man behind Fractal Code. “Cannabis has been with me so much in my life over the past 10 years, through some of my hardest troubles and my happiest moments. This song is all for the plant.”

So, let’s break this track down like the countless buds that surely inspired it. He’s touching on his fondness of marijuana, being high, and chilling out but, unlike what we’ve seen from Fractal Code thus far, he’s rapping away with his own lyrics.

“This is my first time ever rapping over a track and it feels so great expressing that side of myself,” says Martin. “It’s all about my love for cannabis and how it affects my life.”

The music itself is a nice little soundtrack for those attaining a recreational state of mind; the sounds are just complex and weird enough for your brain to have a little bit of fun, but also simplistic enough in their structure so that it isn’t terribly difficult to follow.

“I went a bit more on the trap side of things, which is right up my alley,” says Martin. “I just wanted to create a spiritual gangster weed world.”

Other nice touches include a smoker’s cough audio clip at the beginning, and the track’s runtime of four minutes and twenty seconds. Fractal Code had a plan, and he stuck with it.
