After painfully trickling out just a handful of acts for Folly Fest’s 2019 line-up, we finally have the first full instalment of the festival’s acts, and a glimpse of what the poster for their 11th year will look like.
There are a lot of familiar names popping up on the announced lineup. Naturally enough, the festival’s early announcements include a solid backing of local favourites, with Newfoundland ECMA-winners and JUNO-nominees Fortunate Ones topping the bill, Halifax’s experimental art rockers The Brood not far behind, followed by Fredericton’s The Hypochondriacs and Weak Size Fish.
We also see a curious connection with Massachusetts’ psychedelic rockers Carinae who should be returning with a fresh album at the same time, along with fellow Massachusettsans Sweet Lightning.
If we might be allowed a moment of strong bias, we’d note that we’re quite pleased to see the return of Jamie Comeau & The Crooked Teeth (though who knows which stage they’ll be performing on, after stealing the show on the Folly mainstage last summer), and Tampa.
The real surprise acts we get to look forward to are two afro-funk groups out of Montreal: Afrikana Soul Sister and Papagroove, both making presumably their first Folly appearances.
The lineup, as far as we currently know, now includes: Fortunate Ones, Afrikana Soul Sister, Alysha Brilla, Papagroove, The Brood, The Hypochondriacs, Weak Size Fish, The Galpines, Tampa, Morohubu, Carinae, The Vaudevillian, Jamie Comeau & The Crooked Teeth, Womb 2 Tomb, Chickahominy Mountain Band, Jaguar Knight, Sweet Lightning, The Falling Leaves, Monteith, Jerry-Faye Band, Pallmer, Catherine Kennedy, and Kylie Fox
Folly Fest takes place in the Village of Gagetown, New Brunswick from June 28th to 30th, 2019.
Tickets are on sale now, though you’ll be disappointed to learn that not only super-early bird tickets and early bird tickets have both sold out, there was an April Fools Buy-One-Get-One free bargain that was no joke at all.
