It’s been three and a half years since Yarmouth, Nova Scotia’s Rain Over St. Ambrose released their last album, Just Waking Up. That’s an awfully long time to be hitting the snooze button by anyone’s standards. The band stuck with it though and today they have finally followed up with a cryptic new single, “Dedication.”
While the band have chosen to literally spell out the song with a new lyric video that’s been produced by produced by Acadian Embassy using footage from the 1948 American film noir thriller ‘Sorry Wrong Number’ starring Barbara Stanwyck and Burt Lancaster, they have otherwise been mum on any other details about the song.
“[You] probably won’t get much in the way of what the song is about,” promises guitarist Marc Durkee of his bandmate and lyricist, Cory Le Blanc. “Cory is pretty tight-lipped on that sort of thing.”
Recorded with Thomas Stacjer at New Scotland Yard in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, the song builds itself on a bright young drum fill and what the band admits is a Dire Straits-influenced bridge. All this while lamenting the challenges of what might be described as ‘adulting ‘and the dedication required to maintain a friendship.
“We’ve been working hard on some new tunes in our home studio over the past year.” says Durkee. “When we finally had a couple of tracks ready for release, we took a trip up to New Scotland Yard in Dartmouth and laid them down. We once again worked with Tony Doogan, who runs Castle Of Doom Studios, on the mix.”
The band say they’ve not booked much in the way of shows, with a couple of exceptions including a double-release date with Driftwood People, but to stayed tuned for more new music this year.
