New Brunswick is too often mistaken as the “drive-through province,” and to be fair, the view from the highway is too often an unwavering and nap-inducing ribbon of pines and moose fencing. But for those willing the venture beyond the Trans-Canada there’s a whole province full of reasons to linger. With music festivals cropping up in every den and hollow, there are more reasons than ever to discover the beautiful nooks and crannies of the province, as Outside I’m A Giant from Hull, Quebec discovered while performing at Tay Creek Folk Festival last summer. The experience was enough to inspire them to write a whole song about it.
Outside I’m A Giant performed earlier this year at Living Roots Music Festival in Fredericton, New Brunswick where they blew us away with a delivery that could be described as powerfully subdued. It’s like having an iceberg gently waltz up against your eardrums.
The band also blew away Tay Creek’s organizers who were present for a live performance of OIAG’s ode to their festival.
“Tay Creek was amazing. I’ve never seen a festival quite like Tay Creek that truly celebrates the music and the folk community. It was a little surreal even,” says Outside I’m A Giant’s frontman Jérémi Caron.
Last year was our first tour ever and tay creek was our last show of the tour. You probably already know this, but touring can be hard for emerging artists and especially the first tour. So to have finished on that note… we could not have asked for better. Everybody made us feel like home. Like this is where we belong.”
Caron explains that nobody in the band had experienced anything quite like Tay Creek, and from the way he describes the festival it sounds more like a miracle than anything. Nobody feels refreshed at the end of a festival, let alone a whole tour.
Outside I’m A Giant will be returning to perform at Tay Creek Folk Festival in Tay Creek, New Brunswick between July 20th and 22nd, 2018. Caron will also be performing as part of of a songwriting circle on the last day of the festival.
“Can’t wait to see all the friends we made last year. This year we have a great spot in the line up,” says Caron.
“Tay Creek” will be featured on the band’s upcoming sophomore album, titled Undoubting Belief in the Good, which is expected to be released in February, 2019.
